July 2021 Upcoming Programs

Call 386-736-5927 to register for programs. Explore Volusia programs are offered through the county, they are free unless otherwise stated, and open to anyone.

Waterbody paddle – Seminole Rest National Park July 2, 9:00 -11:00 am Friday
Explore the Indian River Lagoon while paddling from Seminole Rest Park to surrounding areas. Participants may
have the opportunity to see a variety of organisms including manatees, dolphins, and different species of birds.
Must have Kayak/Canoe/SUP, life preserver and whistle. Meet at 207 River Rd., Oak Hill 32759.

Volunteer and learn - NSB Flagler Ave. July 5, 8:30 am – 10:30 am Monday
Volunteers will clean up firework debris and other trash left on the beach after the Fourth of July holiday. We will
also learn how trash and other obstacles interfere with sea turtle nesting and hatchlings. We will meet at the
pavilion. Please be aware that the parking lot at Flagler Ave. requires a parking pass or a daily fee. Street parking

Snorkel Program- Blue Spring State Park “paid Entry” July 7, 8:30 – 10:30 am Wednesday
Bring your snorkel gear to explore the wonders of the spring habitat. Participants will get the opportunity to learn
about the importance of springs while enjoying crystal clear “72°F” water. Participants must be able to swim, have
their own equipment, and anyone under the age of 18 will be required to wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD)
and be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times. There will be a park entrance fee for admittance to the park
($6 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people in vehicle, $4 for Single Occupant, $2 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers,
passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass. Meet at 2100 W. French Ave. Orange City, FL
32763.

Seine net- Spruce Creek Park July 8, 9:00-11:00 am Thursday
Join us on a seining adventure https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seine_fishing! Participants will have the opportunity
to use a seventy-foot basket seine net to observe a variety of local organisms, and learn about microplastics, the
harm they are causing in the environment and ways to cut down on the impact. Meet at 6250 S Ridgewood Ave,
Port Orange, 32127.

Waterbody Paddle - Doris Leeper July 15, 9:00 - 12:00 pm Thursday
Bring a canoe, Kayak or SUP for a leisurely paddling trip on Spruce Creek. Learn about estuary and marsh ecosystems,
along with a variety of information about the biodiversity of these important habitats. Participants must have
Kayak/Canoe/SUP, life preserver and whistle. Meet at 3251 N. Dixie Highway, New Smyrna Beach.

Beach Bike- Esther Park July 22, 9:00 – 11:00 am Thursday
Take a leisurely ride from Ester Park to Ponce De Leon Inlet and back (approximately five-mile total trip).
During the ride participants will learn about wrack lines, marine mammals, sea turtle nesting, and much
more. Participants are required to wear a helmet and bring their own bicycle (large tired bike
recommended). Meet at 551 Esther St. New Smyrna Beach, 32169. (please review parking area
requirements, free to Volusia County Residents with a parking permit.

Waterbody Paddle - Blue Spring July 28, 9:00 - 11:00 am Wednesday
Bring a canoe, kayak, or SUP for a leisurely paddling trip near Blue Spring State Park to explore the area
while learning about local wildlife and the history of the area. Participants will also learn about water
quality and the importance of Florida’s springs as a manatee refuge. Must have Kayak/Canoe/SUP, life
preserver and whistle. Meet at the end of W. French Avenue in Orange city. About 1 mile past Blue
Spring State Park Entrance.

Volunteer and Learn – LEC July 30, 9:00 – 11:00 am Friday
Volunteers will do basic garden maintenance in the raised garden beds and the pollinator garden. This
may including weeding, soil preparation, planting, watering, etc. Volunteers will learn about pollinator
gardens and their importance for bees, birds, and butterflies. There will also be a conversation about
