Volusia Seniors... Today, September 29th, is World Heart Day!

It's a great time to consider how important it is to take care of your heart and to make a goal to keep it healthier.

18.6 Million

That's how many people die in the world each year due to heart disease and stroke. It's the leading cause of death worldwide.
At least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided through diet, being physically active, and other lifestyle choices (such as not smoking).

You likely already know the ways to help make your heart healthier, whether you are doing them or not. You can have a healthier heart by being physically active, eating a healthy diet, not smoking (also avoid secondhand smoke), not drinking too much, managing stress, and managing things like your cholesterol and blood pressure.

Locally, you can make a goal to join a walking club, go hiking, hit the paved bike trails, and more. We live in an area where Volusia Seniors can get outside to be physically active, or you can choose to go to the gym, or do in-home workouts. Just get moving and be active most days of the week. Take steps to eat a healthier diet, which includes eating your fruits and veggies each day.

Being heart healthy is important at any age. There are many things you can do on a daily basis to help protect your heart health. Today, make a goal to include some of those things into your routine!
