Volusia Seniors... take a guided hike through the scrub habitat at Lyonia Environmental Center! Located at 2150Eustace Ave in Deltona (next to the library), these events are free and open to the public. You need to make reservations by calling 386-789-7207, ext. #21028. Wear closed-toe shoes, bring drinking water, and be prepared to hike on sugar sand trails.

OUTDOOR: Take a trip down Florida’s memory lane, while hiking through Lyonia Preserve to learn about the ancient beach it once was. Staff will also explain what life was like for the northern and central Florida Native Americans known as the Timucuans and their village Nocoroco, which is a preserved site in Volusia County.

OUTDOOR: Lyonia Preserve is home to two ephemeral wetlands. Join a guided hike to both of these areas to compare the plants found there to those in nearby upland habitats. Staff will explain the importance of wetlands in Volusia County’s conservation lands.

OUTDOOR: Earn badges while learning about Volusia County’s wildlife. Staff will introduce participants to iNaturalist, a free app used globally to discover and document wild plants and animals. They will go over the basics and lead a walk to get users comfortable with the program in Lyonia Preserve.

OUTDOOR: Listen to the environment as staff from the Atlantic Center for the Arts leads a walk through Lyonia Preserve. The group will observe the sounds of the preserve while taking in all nature has to offer. Participating in a soundwalk can help people relieve stress, gain focus, and develop a deeper understanding of how we fit into our environment.
