How to Festival in New Smyrna Beach
Local experts, hobbyists, and professionals will share their passions and offer instructions during 100 free programs at six branches of the Volusia County Public Library system from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022.
Attendees can learn everything from how to create a gravity cake to how to draw a comic strip during the How-to Festival, an interactive community education event.
Reservations are not required for these free programs unless otherwise indicated.

Help Me Grow Florida: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Help Me Grow Florida ensures that children have the best possible start in life by providing free developmental and behavioral screenings and connecting them to the resources they need to succeed.
Start a legal living will: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn how to discuss and document care and comfort choices. Representatives from Halifax Health Continuing Care will provide information and answer questions about Five Wishes, an easy-to-use advance directive.
Adopt a pet and be a responsible owner: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn how to adopt a pet and be a responsible pet owner. Representatives from Southeast Volusia Humane Society will offer pet care tips and guide individuals and families through the pet adoption process.
Make a paper spinner: 11 a.m. Make a fidget toy using paper and string.
Healthy snacks for kids: 11 a.m. Dietitian Stacey Scrabis will describe healthy snack alternatives for kids. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
How to play the dulcimer: 11 a.m. Learn how to play this string folk instrument with members of the New Smyrna Beach Dulcimer Society. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
Kids yoga: Noon. Yoga instructor Amanda Petrone will lead a kids yoga session. Bring water and a mat. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
Chair yoga: Noon. A Seat of the Soul instructor will lead a short chair yoga session. Learn easy poses to do at home. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
Origami: Noon. Explore the Japanese art of origami.
How to make a mosaic: Noon. Nancy Neel of Atlantic Center for the Arts will demonstrate how to make a mosaic using easy to find household items. Attendees will receive a mosaic kit to take home. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
Pediatric massage: 1 p.m. Licensed massage therapist Nathalie Dunning will offer a pediatric massage demonstration and provide tips to use at home. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
Laughter yoga: 1 p.m. Joy Steelman of the Downtown Orlando CommuniTeeHee Laughter Club will demonstrate the practice of pranayama yoga. Registration is required; call (386) 424-2910.
